Being able to speak to the locals, even if you only know enough phrases to be polite and win a smile; entering into a shop and gaining the affections of the owner because you practice their cultural manners; seeing a famous landmark and being able to not just say, “Wow, that’s cool,” but being able to see the thousands of years of memories it holds, as you are educated on the history of the place.
